Maritime Broadband has expanded its worldwide footprint by opening an office, Maritime Broadband Hellas, in Athens, Greece. The new office addresses the growing international demand for its C-Bird VSAT communications solution and spearheads sales and service support in the region.

Maritime Broadband Hellas, which is headed by Managing Director, Thanasis Giamas, employs a four-person staff fluent in English, Greek and French to serve the most prolific shipping companies throughout Europe and the world via its global channel partners.

The C-Bird VSAT communications solution is fast becoming recognized as the world’s best, most reliable and affordable system by major shipping industry players. Its satellite network utilizes the highest quality C-band technology and enhances the operation and safety of ships while enabling personnel to stay connected with family, friends and the world through the Internet for access to news, professional development websites, changing weather patterns and other crucial information.

“We chose Greece as our point of expansion to the wider region of the Mediterranean sea and the Balkans primarily because of Greek shipping’s leading position in the global market,” said Maritime Broadband Co-Founder and CEO Mary Ellen Kramer.  “Our Athens branch reflects our recognition of Greek shipping owners as global commerce leaders and their long-term and steadfast commitment to the maritime market. Being “on the spot” literally means that we are able to feel the pulse of this market in real-time.”

“We feel honored to have been chosen by Maritime Broadband to run its Hellenic operations,” said Giamas. “We realize that we are addressing a unique and distinguished community characterized by entrepreneurial ethos and classical business values in global scarcity, like integrity, composure and loyalty. This is our starting point to introduce C-Bird  and we are doing it because we are convinced that we offer something that will revolutionize the Hellenic commercial maritime industry. We want to build our reputation on a legendary after-sales support and we feel confident that C-Bird will be the platform of choice for ocean broadband for the next decade.”

Greek shipping companies control an impressive 18 percent of the world's shipping fleet, including 20.5 percent of all tankers, 19 percent of dry bulk vessels, 13 percent of all chemical tankers, and 5.9 percent of all container ships. Maritime Broadband Hellas taps into this huge market and plans to provide C-Bird systems for installations locally through channel partners.

Ship’s personnel assemble C-Bird during a regular port call in just four hours using tools already onboard.  Monthly fees are up to 98 percent lower than competitors and Maritime Broadband’s proprietary software and hardware are the most reliable in the industry, operating for years in all kinds of weather, including high winds, rain and snow.

“Opening an Athens office is integral to growing our brand and providing ship owners easier access to our game-changing communications platform,” said Kramer.

Maritime Broadband Hellas will be participating in the Digital Ship fair conference and exhibition scheduled for November 26-27 at the Metropolitan Hotel in Athens.
