World Marine, LLC has received the Shipbuilders Council of America’s (SCA) annual “Excellence in Safety” award as well as the “Improvement in Safety” award. SCA, the national association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, honors companies with annual safety awards for enhancement of operations and promotion of safety and accident prevention.

World Marine, LLC is one of 12 SCA member companies to receive awards for their continued advancement of employee safety in the shipyard industry.

SCA member companies are eligible for both the Excellence and Improvement in Safety Awards if they submit the SCA Injury & Illness survey for all four quarters, have zero fatalities throughout the year and if their recordable incidence rate (TRIR) is below the SCA aggregate – 4.59 percent or if they reduce their year-on-year TRIR by 10 percent or more.

“Shipyards are complex work environments and safety of employees is critical,” said Matthew Paxton, President of the SCA. “World Marine, LLC’s stellar safety performance in 2015 reflects excellent leadership in the shipyard and their commitment to safety is proven in the data.”

Dick Marler, President and CEO of World Marine, LLC stated that, “These SCA Safety Awards reflect our corporate commitment to a strong safety program. The management and workers at our yards in Alabama and Mississippi understand that the safety of our employees is unconditional. The wellbeing of our employees has been the goal of our organization since our beginning and continues to be a positive driving force for the future.”

The awards were presented during the SCA annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on April 14, 2016. The event saw the attendance of nearly 100 participants to discuss the status of the U.S. shipbuilding and repair industry and to bring awareness to the U.S. Congress of the industry’s critical role in national and economic security.
