Primorsk Awards Ship Management 7 Vessels

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

October 31, 2001

Primorsk Shipping Corporation of Nakhodka, the Russian-based shipowner and operator has appointed V.Ships, Singapore as technical manager to seven crude/product and product/chemical carriers.

V. Ships and Primorsk comment that the two parties have been in discussions for over a year about the possibility of Primorsk outsourcing the technical management and crewing of part of its globally-traded fleet.

Alexander Kirilichev, president of Primorsk says that working closely with the world’s largest international ship manager will help establish a quality benchmark against which Primorsk will continue to work with all its fleet of 46 vessels. Kirilichev said that Primorsk will also look carefully at the efficiencies that can be achieved in working with a large shipmanager, including making full use of the V.Ships’ resource base worldwide in such areas as procurement, information technology, risk management, training and crewing.

The orderbook for U.S. dredgers is about $3B, and according to DCA CEO Bill Doyle, the incoming political administration could help this niche maritime sector continue its bull run.
