Mammoet to do Heavy Lifting for Sasol Project
Mammoet awarded heavy lift and transport engineering contract for ethane cracker and derivatives complex
Westlake, Louisiana - Mammoet, the world’s largest service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, has been awarded an important contract by Sasol for its new ethane cracker and derivatives complex.
Sasol’s new facilities, which will be built adjacent to its existing site near Westlake, Louisiana, are one of the largest projects on the Gulf Coast. The new ethane cracker will have an impressive annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons of ethylene feeding six chemical manufacturing plants. The facility is expected to be commissioned in 2018.
The contract awarded to Mammoet comprises all of the heavy lift and transport engineering, receiving modules and oversized equipment from domestic and overseas yards, transporting the cargo to site and all major lift work.
Mammoet combines a large global pool of equipment with extensive logistics experience and creative engineering approaches. In an earlier phase of the project, Mammoet provided assistance with the project planning for the heavy lift and transport engineering components.
“We are very pleased to work with the teams involved on one of the largest and most significant construction projects on the Gulf Coast” said Jacques Stoof, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mammoet. “We feel fortunate to have been entrusted to assist Sasol with the heavy lifting and transport requirements for this project and we look forward to working with them to find ways to optimize their heavy lift and transport engineering requirements.”
Today’s announcement comes shortly after Mammoet was awarded a contract to work on a large liquefaction project in Hackberry, Louisiana. The recently awarded projects and the opening of a branch near Lake Charles solidifies Mammoet’s base in the Louisiana region.
