Work to lengthen the Silversea Group’s ultra-luxury cruise ship Silver Spirit is underway at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy.

The 36,000 gt, 195 m Silver Spirit, delivered in 2009 by Fincantieri in Ancona, was able to accommodate over 540 passengers in 270 sea view suites, spread over eight passenger decks.

As part of the lengthening and refurbishment project, a 15-meter section is being inserted in the central part of the ship, marking an industry first for an ultra-luxury cruise ship. The project will extend main public areas and expand the number of suites and capacity for guests on board.

The work was developed and is being carried out by Fincantieri’s Ship Repair and Conversion division, who expects to complete the project in early May.
