St. Lawrence Seaway – mooring wire eye splices

The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System issued a Notice reminding masters that mechanical eye splices on mooring wires for use on ships transiting the Seaway are not permitted. The eyes of mooring wires are to be of the ‘hand’ spliced construction or of the ‘Flemish’ construction only. Masters are to have mooring wire certificates available for inspection/verification.
