Kongsberg Maritime Restructures

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 1, 2003

The restructuring of Kongsberg Maritime, announced at Nor-Shipping 2003 in June, officially comes into action today (July 1st 2003). The subsidiaries Kongsberg Simrad, Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) now come under the Kongsberg Maritime banner in a move to ensure greater knowledge and resource distribution throughout all sectors within the companies. The ultimate goal is greater synergy between divisions in order for Kongsberg Maritime to provide the marine industry with the very best in complete electronic solutions – essentially ‘The Full Picture’. “As a part of the Kongsberg Group, Kongsberg Maritime is the parent company of several leading marine electronics companies,” says Torfinn Kildal, President Kongsberg Maritime. “The restructuring ensures that Kongsberg Maritime can offer its entire range of experience and expertise to the customer through just one company, greatly simplifying the process of procuring innovative marine electronics in any of the sectors we operate in.” Kongsberg Maritime enjoys a strong pedigree in the maritime electronics sector, with 50 years experience in providing advanced solutions for sectors such as hydroacoustics, sub-sea, electronic navigation, automation, simulation and marine IT. Through organic growth and the acquisition of leading maritime electronics companies, such as Simrad, Kongsberg Maritime has become one of the most prolific maritime electronics companies in the world. The reorganization takes place after an in-depth, inward looking research program, initiated to build on the wide range of services and products the Kongsberg group provides the maritime industry. Products and services supplied by Kongsberg Simrad and KMSS are all now available from one single operational company, enabling customers to order advanced solutions for all maritime electronics areas from one company. The restructuring does not effect Kongsberg Seatex (AS) or Simrad (AS). Both companies will continue trading purely as subsidiaries of Kongsberg Maritime.
