Jeppesen, a Boeing subsidiary and the
world’s leading provider of aeronautical data, announced today the launch of Jeppesen
Marine, its newest business venture. The new business unit leverages Jeppesen’s 70-plus
years of experience in the aeronautical information business to provide the commercial
marine market with similar digital navigation and information solutions.
“Jeppesen is the de facto standard in the aeronautical data business thanks to a long and
trusted history,” said Tim Sukle, senior vice president, Jeppesen Marine. “The move into
the marine market is a natural for us as a great deal of synergies exist between the
aviation and marine markets. Today Jeppesen provides worldwide data from the ground
up to our aviation customers, and we intend to offer the same comprehensive, high
quality data and solutions to the maritime communities.”
Jeppesen Marine has been chartered with the same underlying values that launched
Jeppesen in 1934—improving safety and efficiency through innovative navigation
solutions. Because aviation and marine share many of the same challenges, Jeppesen is in
a strong position to bring proven technologies and solutions from the highly advanced
aviation markets to marine markets.
“Much of Jeppesen’s long-term strategic growth will come from markets outside of our
core aviation business,” said Mark Van Tine, Jeppesen president and COO. “The launch
of Jeppesen Marine is a great example of our future beginning to take shape, as we now
look to new and exciting opportunities that will sustain our aggressive growth plans in the
coming years.”
The Nobeltec line of products will continue to be developed and offered to the
recreational boating market. Included in Nobeltec’s full line of electronic marine
navigation solutions are data services, award-winning software, radar solutions, sounders,
and more.
Jeppesen, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA), received full
endorsement of the Jeppesen Marine business plan, which forecasts significant growth in
the coming years. Other advances in technology, such as wireless broadband
connectivity, from providers such as Connexion by BoeingSM, will enable critical
navigation and other data to flow in real time to ships all over the world.
Jeppesen is recognized as the world's foremost provider of information solutions in the
aviation and soon-to-be maritime markets. Jeppesen's portfolio includes: worldwide
flight information, flight operations services, international trip planning services, aviation
weather services and aviation training systems. Jeppesen's marine division will soon
produce a full line of navigation solutions and global maritime data services. Jeppesen
has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, China and
Russia. Jeppesen is a subsidiary of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, a unit of
Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
