In a move to centralize its maintenance and purchasing systems worldwide, marine constructor J. Ray McDermott has selected ABS Nautical Systems (ABS NS) as the software provider of choice for its assets worldwide, including all major derrick barges and associated equipment such as cranes and specialized offshore equipment. ABS NS is well established within the maritime industry for its comprehensive vessel management software that addresses every element of a fleet manager's day-to-day business functions. That knowledge of the marine industry combined with recognition of the special needs of the offshore operator has ABS NS quickly becoming a widely sought after tool by the offshore industry. “Building an information technology system to record key data to manage the hull maintenance, repair costs and schedules of offshore structures on a vessel-by-vessel basis in locations around the world is the wave of the future,” says ABS NS President Jack Kitchura. He says the Houston-based software provider with offices worldwide is seeing more inquiries and interest from the offshore sector for IT solutions. McDermott has purchased the following ABS NS modules: Maintenance & Repair, Purchasing & Inventory, Financial Reporting, Replication Manager and Crew Management. According to J. Ray McDermott’s Marine Division Equipment & Maintenance Manager R. Michael Rondeau, the worldwide mobile assets of McDermott, both people and equipment, will now be best managed with ABS NS software not only in the short term but also more importantly in the long term. “We look at this not just as a software purchase but a knowledge management tool giving us better forecasting and business planning abilities. It fits with our new corporate directive to continuously look for efficiency and determine best practices in all our offshore operations.”
