Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Wednesday dismissed press reports saying that the government was considering a possible merger between state-owned defense group Leonardo and shipbuilder Fincantieri.

"We are absolutely not thinking about mergers. There is nothing of the kind, nothing on the table. I've been informed about these press reports that quote government sources. I absolutely reject these rumors," Conte told reporters on the sideline of an event.
