According to reports a fire broke out in the engine room of the Calypso and was put out by the crew in about three hours on Saturday.
Authorities say no one was hurt in a cruise ship fire in the English Channel. The ship was carrying 462 passengers, virtually all of them Dutch, and a crew of 246.
The British Maritime and Coast Guard Agency says search and rescue units were dispatched to the scene off the southern coast of England. Lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter were sent to the stricken liner but crew members had put out the fire in the engine room before they arrived.
The ship was heading for the port of St. Peter on the island of Guernsey at the time of the fire. The maritime agency says the ship will be towed to Southampton because of damage to the engines.
