IHC Merwede B.V. launched its first regional office in Singapore. The setting up of this 38,000-sq.-ft. facility is part of IHC Merwede’s global strategy to provide its customers with optimal life cycle support and leverage upon the expanding Asia Pacific dredging and offshore markets.
“With the rapidly increasing worldwide demand for oil and gas, we are seeing exciting
opportunities, particularly within the Asia Pacific region. We are targeting to capture over 55%
of the regional offshore construction equipment and dredging markets, and expect to see
some €50 million per year coming through our IHC Merwede Regional Office in Singapore.
Staffed by about 35 people, this local outfit will enable the company to offer improved support
to our customers in Singapore and the region,” explained Mr Joop Hylkema, Board member,
IHC Merwede, who attended the official launch.
“The setting up of IHC Merwede’s regional office here is a most timely event, strengthening the
excellent partnership between Singapore and IHC Merwede. Singapore is one of the world’s
leading integrated marine and offshore centres, while IHC Merwede is one of the oldest and
most established companies in the dredging, shipbuilding and offshore construction industry.
By setting up their regional office in Singapore, IHC Merwede will be able to leverage upon
the nation’s strengths in the offshore industry. At the same time, IHC Merwede will contribute
towards Singapore’s capability development in the sector and enhance its reputation as a
regional marine and offshore hub,” said H.E. Mr Chris C. Sanders, Singapore’s Ambassador
to the Netherlands.
