February 28, 2007

On its first journey from Asia to Europe the container ship new building Hyundai Bangkok for the first time visited the HHLA container terminal Altenwerder in Hamburg. The 6755 TEU vessel is operated by the shipping consortium New World Alliance in its AEX service (Asia- Europe Express Service). The Hyundai Bangkok" leaves Hamburg for the ports of Thamesport, Le Havre, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung and Kwangyang, before returning to the Hanseatic city via the ports of Busan, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Singapore and Rotterdam. A rotation takes 28 days.

During its first visit a delegation of the Port of Hamburg together with the Director of Hyundai Merchant Marine Deutschland GmbH, Jun Y. Choi, as well as Hee-Seok Yun and Günter Boldt, both of them also of Hyundai Merchant Marine, welcomed the Hyundai Bangkok on February 27.

The orderbook for U.S. dredgers is about $3B, and according to DCA CEO Bill Doyle, the incoming political administration could help this niche maritime sector continue its bull run.
