The National Hurricane Center (NHC) released its 42-page report on Hurricane Katrina , which struck Florida and then the Gulf Coast in August. In summary, it states that Katrina was an extraordinarily powerful and deadly hurricane that carved a wide swath of catastrophic damage and inflicted large loss of life. While the majority of the report focuses on meteorological issues and impacts ashore, the report notes some of the impact on offshore rigs and marine traffic on the Mississippi River.
