First of Two Halter-Built Vessels Christened

Halter Marine, Inc. (HMI), a division of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. announced the christening of the first of two articulated tug-barges (ATB) for long-time customer-vessel management services, a Crowley Maritime Corporation subsidiary, and part of its Corporate Services segment. An ATB is built with an articulated pin connection system between the tug and barge that allows movement in the critical area of fore and aft pitch. Christened Sea Reliance, the 9,280 HP tug design is the result of a joint project between Halter Marine and Vessel Management Services. The latest environmental and safety advances, including double-sided construction, along with increased efficiencies in hose handling anchoring, mooring, discharge and loading product are incorporated into the design. The 155, 000-barrel barge christened 550-1 is double hulled for maximum environmental protection and safety. Built, documented and maintained to the requirements of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) SafeHull, the barge is equipped with an inert gas system, enhanced cargo system, and a fully redundant ballast system. Tug Sea Reliance was built at Moss Point Marine and Barge 550-1 at Port Bienville, two of Halter’s Mississippi facilities. Anil Raj, Chief Operating Officer of FGH said,” The delivery of these two units is another example of how Halter has continued to successfully build quality vessels for its valued customers during its reorganization process. During the one year period Halter has delivered 13 vessels on 9 contracts valued at over$250 million. IN the same period Halter has started work on new contracts which, including options are valued at over $270 million.
