GTT to Design LNG Tanks for Sembcorp
French shipping engineering company Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has received an order from Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine shipyard concerning the tank design of the LNG bunkering vessel on order at the yard for Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) subsidiary.
The LNG containment specialist said in a release that it will design the tanks of the vessel, which will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT.
The vessel will offer a total cargo tank capacity of 12,000 m3. Its delivery is planned during the first half of 2021.
Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT, said: “We are very pleased to receive this first order from Sembcorp Marine less than one year after signing a license agreement. This new LNG bunker vessel project strengthens our aspirations for the development of the use of LNG as a marine fuel and further demonstrates the relevance of GTT technologies for this type of application.”
GTT has also signed a Technical Assistance and License Agreement (TALA) with Sembcorp Marine for the design and construction of Sembcorp Marine’s Gravifloat, FSRU and mid-scale LNG carrier products, using GTT membrane solutions.
Sembcorp Marine received its approval after successfully completing a qualification process which started in 2017, including the building of a Mark III mock-up and an audit conducted by GTT. This new partnership allows both companies to target new markets, especially focusing on solutions for LNG terminals, and to advance the development of LNG in the global fuel supply chain.
Sembcorp Marine is a leading provider of engineering solutions for the offshore, marine and energy sectors, operating a total of nine shipyards in Singapore, Indonesia, the UK and Brazil.
