Flyboarding Will Land at Michigan City Boat Show

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 5, 2014

Whether it’s gliding through the water like a dolphin or flying 35 feet above it like a suoer hero, when Cory Johnson take off flyboarding at the Progressive Michigan City Boat Show, August 7-10, the crowds will be seeing the hottest new watersports.

With each demonstration, Johnson will slip into a pair of boots secured to the flyboard by bindings similar to a wakeboard. Water is forced under pressure to jet nozzles underneath the boots which provide thrust for the rider to fly up in the air or to dive headlong through the water.

Invented by French watercraft rider Franky Zapata in 2011, he perfected a design that allows the flyboarder to climb out of the water and be stable in the air by employing underfoot propulsion and hand stabilization. The power comes from a waterjet pack on a personal water craft (PWC).

Flyboarding was first shown to the public at the jet ski World Championship 2012 in China. Soon after, a video hit YouTube and it was quickly declared as a new watersports phenomenon, accounting for more than 2500 units now in use around the world.

The design of the flyboard allows the rider to divert and control the device in any desired motion whether above or below the water. The 55-foot power hose is attached in a way so that the PWC follows behind the rider’s trail, allowing the rider all types of freedom of movement. The Flyboard is buoyant for safety, allowing the rider to rest in the water between rides if he or she chooses.

Johnson will appear at the boat show daily. He’s considered a top flyboarder and instructorhailing from Lake Wawasee, IN. His company is appropriately named: Up In The Air Watersports.
