Robert Allan Ltd. won a contract by the Fire Department of New York for the, design and construction administration of a major new fireboat. The new vessel will replace the venerable, but aging, Fire Fighter.
The contract for design and construction administration was bid internationally, and awarded to Robert
Allan Ltd. on the basis of qualifications and experience with major high-performance fireboats.
The new vessel will be approximately 130 ft . (40 m) long, have a service speed of 17.5 knots, and a
total pumping capacity of 8,200 cu. m. per hour (36,000 gpm).
The vessel is expected to be put to tender at shipyards late in the second quarter of 2006.
This major contract award fills out the Robert Allan Ltd. fireboat portfolio which, in addition to the recent
Warner L. Lawrence, built for the Los Angeles Fire Department, includes the following projects which
are either currently under design development or due for imminent tendering at shipyards:
• City of Philadelphia - 20 metres (66'), 1,250 m3 per hour (5,500 US gpm) fast-response
fireboat
• City of Portland, Maine - 26 metres (87'), 2,300 m3 per hour (10,000 US gpm) patrol/fireboat
• City of Tampa, Florida - approx. 20 metres (65'), 1,150 m3 per hour (5,000 US gpm) fastresponse
fireboat
• City of Dongguan, China - 40 metres (127'), 4,500 m3 per hour (20,000 US gpm) fireboat
