Trojan Marinex has been named the winner of the 2016 Outstanding Private Sector Achievement award from the Reduce Risks from Invasive Species Coalition (RRISC). The award goes to a private sector company that has introduced a product or service that has the potential to make a significant contribution to reducing the environmental and economic risks posed by invasive species. The award – recognizing Trojan’s environmental stewardship and ballast water treatment technology – was presented on June 15, 2016 at the annual RRISC Congressional Reception in Washington, D.C.

“Being recognized by RRISC is a tremendous honor,” said Mark Kustermans, Market Manager at Trojan Marinex. “Trojan is committed to the innovation of solutions that unequivocally protect the environment, and this award further validates this commitment. We thank RRISC for the award, and also want to take this opportunity to applaud them on the great educational work they are performing on the risks posed by invasive species.”

Over 90 percent of the world’s trade is carried by sea, and each year it’s estimated that transfers of over 10 billion metric tons of ballast water take place around the world. Ballast water taken on in one ecological zone and discharged, untreated, into another can result in the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species. Vessel owners rely on Trojan Marinex BWT systems to effectively treat ballast water by removing and rendering organisms harmless.

“The spread of aquatic invasive species is a very real, very serious threat to our environment,” explained Scott Cameron, RRISC’s President. “The Trojan Marinex ballast water treatment system plays an important role in solving this problem and restoring balance to the marine environment. We thank them for all they are doing to protect our waterways.”
