GEA Heat Exchangers said it will present its latest innovations at SMM 2014, the maritime-business trade fair for shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology from September 9-12 in Hamburg Germany. The company will exhibit in hall A3, at stand 212, where visitors can become acquainted with a variety of product innovations for maritime operations and offshore applications.

Reduced NOx emissions from GEA exhaust gas recirculation coolers – now for two-stroke engines

In addition to its already proven exhaust gas recirculation coolers (EGR) for four-stroke diesel engines, GEA Heat Exchangers now presents a new model for two-stroke diesel engines in medium and high output ranges. The EGR is an essential component for motor-side exhaust-gas recirculation and cools a part of engine exhaust gases down to charge-air temperature level before they are again mixed with air of combustion – which results in reduction of NOx emissions. The new system has proven its effectiveness in pilot applications on the oceans of the world, GEA said. This exhaust-gas recirculation enables reduction of NOx emissions by up to 80% for two-stroke diesel engines – which enables conformity with the strict exhaust-gas guidelines for ECA Zones (TIER III / IMO III). Thanks to the employment of high-efficiency stainless-steel finned-tube systems, the EGR requires a smaller footprint and is highly effective for use as a retrofit solution.

GEA Bloksma oil coolers in various versions and sizes

At SMM, GEA Heat Exchangers will present its overview of materials and potential areas of application by showing a selection of GEA Bloksma oil coolers. Depending on the particular model involved, these oil coolers are highly effective for a range of applications, among others for on-board refrigeration and environmental-protection systems. They are available in various types and with the most effective materials and model dimensions. For example, the P17, which will be shown at SMM, has a customized aluminum casing. Furthermore the P20 with copper fins demonstrates how a great degree of heat exchange can be implemented within a small footprint. Thanks to the copper fins, this model is equipped for operation with air as medium, at relatively high temperatures. For a maximum of flexibility, for example, the NF range of oil coolers is available in the portfolio. They combine the benefits of standardized, non-welded, finned-tube heat exchangers with the adaptability of welded casing. As a result, they enable more opportunities in engineering design and connection possibilities. The GEA Bloksma P48 will be shown for the first time at a trade fair. This shell-and-tube heat exchanger extends the performance spectrum of the PF series upward.
