The U.S. Coast Guard is establishing a regulated navigation area (RNA) within San Diego Bay, Mission Bay, and their approaches out to twelve nautical miles offshore. Vessels of 100 gross tons or greater intending to enter San Diego Bay or Mission Bay must obtain permission from the U.S. Coast Guard upon entering the RNA. Such vessels intending to depart or move within the RNA must also obtain USCG permission prior to such movement. Permission should be sought at least 30 minutes prior to the intended entry, departure, or movement. A vessel with a properly operating automatic identification system (AIS) is exempt from this requirement. The RNA comes into effect on December 22.
