Gatto Industrial Starts Electroplating in North America

Gatto Industrial Platers, Inc. has launched its new Large Parts Zinc Electroplating Line, capable of plating parts up to 27 feet long and weighing up to 8,000 pounds. The new line’s tanks are 4 feet wide, 7.5 feet deep and 27 feet long, and enable Gatto to turn around the zinc plating of large parts in as little as 72 hours.

“This new line offers our customers new plating advantages for large parts, and increases our plating capacity by 30-40%,” says George Gatto, Jr., one of the owners of the business. “It will also create new job opportunities within the company, continuing our commitment to growth”.

The Large Parts Line, unique in North America, means customers no longer have to design large parts in sections to fit available plating tanks, reducing both their production costs and time to market. It also means that large parts that previously had to be galvanized or painted to protect them against corrosion can now be plated with a high-performance clear trivalent chromate zinc finish that offers superior protection and is RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive) compliant.

In keeping with Gatto’s ongoing commitment to reduce the amount of waste being cycled back into our environment, “King Kong,” as the new line is dubbed by Gatto, was designed and constructed using high-quality used equipment. Eighty percent of the materials used to build the line were repurposed. By refurbishing old tanks and beams to build the new line, Gatto was able to prevent more than 1,000,000 pounds of material from cycling back into the scrap yards.

The new Large Parts Line is ideal for the plating of a wide variety of parts, including but not limited to long hydraulic tubing, large frames, threaded rod, large frames and chassis, large machined parts, hex shafts and large weldments.

Gatto Industrial Platers, Inc. is a leading provider of zinc plating, zinc-nickel plating and aluminum chromate, servicing metal stampers, fabricators and other major manufacturing companies throughout the United States. Founded in 1974, Gatto is located on Chicago’s West Side in a 210,000 square foot facility. It is a family-owned business with three generations working in the company today.
