The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is proposing to identify the electromagnetic spectrum that should be used for the maritime Automatic Identification System (AIS) in the United States and its coastal waters. The FCC proposes to designate VHF maritime channels 87B and 88B for exclusive AIS use domestically, so as to be consistent with the international regime. The FCC has tentatively concluded to deny the petition filed by the public coast station licensee that conflicts with this proposal. Comments on the proposal should be submitted by December 30. 69 Fed. Reg. 65570 (November 15, 2004)
