World's First Dual-fuel Ice-class LNG Carrier
LNG Carrier 'Coral Energy' naming ceremony to take place next month at the Port of Rotterdam Cruise Terminal.
The new ship is claimed by the Dutch owners, Anthony Veder, to be world’s first direct driven dual-fuel ice class 1A LNG carrier. Its development started in 2010 in close cooperation with Norwegian gas provider Skangass. The design of the ship makes it possible to deliver LNG to all sizes of terminals in an environmental friendly way. The ship provides LNG as a cleaner energy source to remote places and to smaller terminals where the LNG can be used amongst other as bunker fuel for other ships, power generation, and retail distribution.
The Coral Energy is being built at the Neptun Werft in Rostock, Germany. In recent months various important construction milestones of the ship have been reached, and the vessel was successfully launched on the 30th of September 2012.
