Report on USCG Vessel Documentation User Fees

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

October 2, 2002

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the U.S. Department of Transportation released its Report on USCG Vessel Documentation User Fees. The OIG audit revealed that user fees collected by the Coast Guard exceeded the cost of providing the vessel documentation service. The Coast Guard streamlined its operations several years ago, but did not adjust its fees to account for its lower costs. The Coast Guard has agreed to adjust its user fees accordingly.
