Coast Guard personnel throughout the Eighth Coast Guard
District, headquartered in New Orleans, are doing their part to increase vigilance and patrols. In support of Operation Liberty Shield, District eight has increased their waterways patrols, provided more escorts of passenger ships, including cruise
ships and ferries; have placed Coast Guard Sea Marshals on most high interest
vessels arriving or departing from our ports; and enforcing security zones in and around critical infrastructure sites.
To accomplish these vital missions, the Coast Guard relies on its active
duty, Reserve, Auxiliary, and civilian personnel. Eighth District Coast
Guardsmen have the responsibility of protecting 15,490 miles of coastline
and 10,300 miles of inland waterways in 26 states in the heartland of
America.
