Cloud X Discontinues Operations

The Cloud X, a 365-passenger fast ferry that has been operating between Port of Palm Beach and the Bahamas since August 2005, will discontinue operations at the end of May, the vessel’s owner said today. “Rising fuel costs and disruption of travel priorities caused by four hurricanes are among factors beyond our control that contributed to this decision,” said John Martin, owner of the vessel, which was operated by Party Line Cruise Co. “While we had hoped to overcome these challenges, and even though passenger levels have been slowly increasing, we recognized that we could not feasibly sustain operations under present circumstances,” Martin added. “We certainly regret that we are having to discontinue operations.” The Cloud X, which in February added a fifth sailing day to its weekly schedule, is slated to operate its final round-trip between Port of Palm Beach and Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, at the end of May, Martin said. “I encourage everyone in our community to act fast so they can enjoy this treasure before it departs,” said Lori A. Baer, executive director of the Port of Palm Beach. “It’s a beautiful vessel, a first-class operation and a delightful excursion experience,” she said.
