Middle East Carrier Takes Delivery of VLCC from Korean Yard

Oman Shipping Company (OSC) takes delivery of 317,000 dwt Very Lange Crude Carrier from Daewoo

Oman Shipping Company (OSC) has taken delivery of the very large crude carrier Izki , in Okpo, South Korea, to be 13th crude carrier and 34th vessel in the multi-purpose fleet of the company.

The ship, which was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME), is one of the most modern OSC vessels having been supplied with the latest navigational safety equipment and technical outfits that enable the ship to operate best in different weather conditions. The Izki  has advanced ballast water treatment technology to comply with international conventions on the protection of the environment from the effects of transportation of ballast water and sediments around the world.

The vessel is of 317,000 deadweight (DWT) capacity, 333 meters in length overall, 60 meter in beam and with a design draft of 21 meters. The VLCC will be technically managed by International Tanker Management (ITM), which is a subsidiary of "V Ships".

OSC aims at raising the operational capacity to 41 carrier in 2013 and deadweight (DWT) capacity from 5.3 million DWT to 8 million DWT, once the ordered vessels are delivered.

Oman Shipping Company's fully owned subsidiary, Oman Ship Management Company (OSMC), based in Muscat, now has the technical management of 15 vessels "In-House", comprising of 6 LNG vessels, 1 LPG vessel, 3 VLCCs, 1 Chemical Tanker, 2 Methanol carriers and 2 Multi-Purpose Vessels.
