Moose Boats delivered a M2-35’ for law enforcement, search and rescue efforts and fire fighting capabilities to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
This vessel is the second purchase by the Department following a M2-33 vessel delivered in 2005 and will be deployed for rescue, patrol and fire fighting operations out of their Marina del Rey
Station. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Harbor Patrol Unit serves as a first responder rescue unit for the entire shoreline of Los Angeles County. The range of calls for service includes incidents such as airplane crashes, boat fires, cars in the water and capsized
vessels. The vessel’s jet propulsion makes it suited for dive rescue and recovery operations, due to the safety factor inherent to waterjet equipment versus traditional propeller driven boats.
Boat operators can safely maneuver in open-water rescues with divers in the water without putting them in harm’s way from potential propeller contact. Additionally, the boat is equipped with
a climate controlled cabin which enables superior patient care during emergency medical calls.
This 35.5 ft. all-Aluminum Jet Powered Catamaran is outfitted with twin Cummins 425 hp turbo diesels and is propelled by Hamilton 292 water jets. This vessel can attain a top speed of over 37 knots, operate at a service speed of 28 knots, come to a full-speed stop in less than two boat lengths and turn on a dime. Its 21 in. draft will allow all of this to be done in less than 3 ft. of
water.
