Offshore Systems International Ltd., a marine electronic navigation company with a strong defense niche, announced that it has completed the installation of its latest ECPINS-M system aboard Lockheed Martin's Sea SLICE advanced technology demonstration vessel. Developed by the United States Navy Office of Naval Research and the Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems division of Lockheed Martin, Sea SLICE will be participating in the United States Navy's Fleet Battle Experiment - Juliet this summer. The U.S. Navy's Fleet Battle Experiments are underway-exercises designed to evaluate new technology and new operational concepts for future development and deployment.
During the two-and-a-half week experiment, Sea SLICE will operate approximately 80 miles (128 km) off the San Diego coast in a combat environment classified as "cluttered littoral." The vessel will face real and simulated threats from surface, sub-surface and airborne sources. One of the significant themes for Sea SLICE and the entire experiment will be "reduced manning requirements", which will be met by grouping information management hardware and ship automation tools.
