New Vessel Deliveries

Seacraft Shipyard Corp., Amelia, La., recently delivered M/V Sea Holly, a 110 ft. live-aboard long range yacht, designed for extended excursions. The entire exterior of the vessel was faired and painted to a yacht-quality finish and the bottom of the vessel was coated with a high-performance anti-fouling paint.

On the aft main deck are a flat bottom skiff and a vee bottom runabout, both of which are secured on removable boat cradles. The main deck cabin features a full service galley. Forward of the galley is the six-person settee and table complete with television.

Located on the upper deck is a large pilothouse equipped with a modern electronic package, including GPS, VHF, SSB, radar, satellite telephone, complete video surveillance camera system, vessel monitoring system and engine monitoring system.

Located in the engine room are three GM12V71 T1 closed coupled to TD 514 marine gears, with three rudders to allow a choice of either single screw operation for extended range/reduced fuel consumption, or triple screw operation for high speed. The vessel is also equipped with a bowthruster to assist in maneuvering.

A pair of 40kW cycle diesel engine generators provides onboard electrical power. Also located in the engine room are the air compressors, air conditioning systems, water pressure sets and water heaters.

Harbor Patrol Boat from Sea Hawk

Sea Hawk Industries recently delivered one of its Wide Beam 360 patrol boats to the Salem, Mass. Harbormaster, Billy Wholley. Designed for patrol, law enforcement and search and rescue, 36 x 14 ft. Donald J. Francis is powered by twin Cummins B260 diesels and sports a flybridge, transom door, dive platform and dive ladder to assist in harbormaster duties.

To help provide protection during cold winters, a fully enclosed and heated pilothouse was chosen, which - in addition to providing room for a full crew, plus several divers - has a folding bed, which can be used as a critical patient bed.

The wide 14 ft. beam extends from amidship to the transom, providing a spacious and stable work platform, which - along with the smooth, fast (33 mph) ride - was a major factor in the selection of the vessel.

Vermont Police Take Delivery of Hike Patrol Vessel

Hike Metal Products delivered a 24 ft. "fast response" vessel to the Colchester Police Department. The Hike 24 is custom-built, and of all-welded aluminum construction. Aluminum was chosen over fiberglass, because it best met the Police Department's criteria for a rugged, but lightweight craft that can operate at speeds up to 50 mph while carrying a full payload.

This is the third vessel Hike Metal Products has supplied to the Vermont State Police, who previously acquired Hike 26 and Hike 33 patrol boats.

The Hike 24 features an open center console design with unimpeded visibility. A unique "hinge-down" combination side gate and ladder provides for boarding, diving and rescue, plus there is generous locker space for gear. A massive tow bit is welded into the boat's aft structural members, and there is a fire-fighting water pump and nozzle on the fore deck, capable of delivering 300 gal. per minute.

The design features a medium, 16-degree, V-hull form ensuring smooth operation.

NY Waterway Receives New Ships

Frank Sinatra, Yogi Berra and Fiorello LaGuardia, the newest members of NY Waterway's fleet, were unloaded at Brooklyn's Red Hook Terminal, after a journey by ship from Sitka, Alaska through the Panama Canal.

The 149-passenger, 79-ft. high-speed bow-loading catamarans were delivered by Allen Marine, Inc., the Sitka, Alaska-based company that custom-designed the boats for NY Waterway. The vessels have top speeds of 27 knots, or 30 mph, comfortable seating in climate-controlled main and upper deck cabins, outdoor passenger space on the upper deck, a food service area and two restrooms. The boats are powered by four Caterpillar 3406E diesel engines, creating up to 700 hp each and driving four Hamilton waterjets. There are two engines and two jets mounted in each hull.
