DALO Chooses SARIS to Support SAR Operations
The Danish Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) announced the purchase of a major upgrade of BMT’s SARIS, the search and rescue planning tool that helps save lives, plan searches and minimize danger at sea.
Niels Peder Pedersen from Land based Surveillance comments: “After extensive research into the solutions that are available and subject to legal and commercial evaluation, DALO have concluded that SARIS is still the most optimum tool that best fits our needs.”
The upgrade will consist of a deployment of 20 licenses primarily to Denmark but also including Greenland and the Faroe Islands. A large part of the upgrade will include capacity for ongoing in-house training, with initial training being delivered by BMT.
The SARIS technology is designed to help locate targets, whether it be people or objects, lost at sea. The tool is the product of over 20 years’ experience working with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency and other well-renowned coastguard authorities around the world. SARIS utilities BMT's expertise in marine environmental software systems and is a sister application to its industry leading navigation and maneuvering simulator, REMBRANDT.
Ian Smith, BMT’s Business Line Manager for SARIS explains: “Traditionally, coastguards would use nautical charts and careful statistical calculations to help determine the predicted movement of a missing person or object at sea – all of which can take time. This functionality, with the addition of high quality metocean data modelling is delivered in a fraction of the time by SARIS. The addition of the Monte Carlo probabilistic modelling offers new opportunities to the Danish and all of our customers, providing high quality simulations surpassing what has been provided before.”
Smith continues: “These additional licences demonstrates that SARIS is still a force to be reckoned with in the search and rescue modelling market. It also reinforces our commitment to ensuring that we continue to listen to our customers and provide a solution that is flexible and fit for purpose.”
