Daihatsu Joins ClassNK Research Project
Classification society ClassNK announced that it will embark on a joint research project together with Daihatsu Diesel Mfg. Co., Ltd. Through the partnership, ClassNK will support research that tests the extensibility of condition based monitoring system and automatic diagnostic system “ClassNK CMAXS LC-A” for auxiliary diesel engines manufactured by Daihatsu Diesel Mfg. Co., Ltd.
Although there has been a significant amount of research into condition based monitoring systems for main diesel engines, there is limited research that investigates its extensibility for auxiliary equipment in engine room. However, in recent years, auxiliary equipment such as auxiliary diesel engines have developed a need for condition based monitoring systems, largely due to a lack of experienced seafarers enough to interpret the large amount of sensor data now available on vessels.
The aim of this joint project is to test the extensibility of “ClassNK CMAXS LC-A”, a cloud-based machinery maintenance system that uses sophisticated analysis software to analyze sensor data obtained in the engine room for automatic condition diagnoses and to detect any early signs of damage to auxiliary equipment. The system will be able to show the condition of a wide variety of equipment in real-time and through the optimization of scheduled overhaul intervals, will subsequently improve the lifecycle costs and enhance the safety of ship operations. The project is scheduled to continue until October 2015.
