Cummins Marine, a division of Cummins Engine Company, is the first marine diesel engine manufacturer to receive IMO MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI emissions Statements of Compliance from the U.S. EPA for its marine engines.
The Statements of Compliance cover Cummins' B, C, QSM11 and K series of marine propulsion engines, ranging from 180-2,000 hp. Cummins expects to receive similar compliance statements for its N14 and QSK19 propulsion engines and C series of generator drive engines.
The company also announced it has successfully passed the first Lloyd's Register witness test of its B and QSK19 series marine engines, and it expects to receive Statements of Compliance from LR.
Although the Annex to the treaty by the IMO has not been ratified, Cummins Marine engines will meet these proposed worldwide emissions standards to protect its customers from the consequences of installing a non-compliant product after January 1, 2000.
Beginning September 30, 1999, Cummins Marine engine families manufactured for countries covered by the IMO began shipping with a data tag and technical file identifying emissions compliance. The vessel owner will be responsible for keeping the technical file onboard for inspection after the treaty becomes law.
