The meeting was arranged by Daniela Rapattoni, of the New Center for Cultural Research and Universities Studies in Italy, an organization sponsored by the Bank of La Spezia. Together with Giampiero Soncini, SpecTec CEO, and Stefano Foti, SpecTec CFO, were Lorenzo Forcieri, Senator of the Italian Parliament, Marco Simonetti, Managing Director of Contship La Spezia (one of the largest port container terminals of Italy), and Cristiana Pagni, Corporate Director of Sitep, a company dedicated to Advanced Electronic Systems.

Under the agreement with CSULB, SpecTec, Contship and Sitep will host, every year, students from the University for five to six months at a time. The students will receive formal training on Marketing and Operations in the shipping and port structures. CSULB Dean of the Italian College, professor Carlo Chiarenza, hosted the meeting, together with Sharon Olson, Director of Education abroad, and Gerry Riposa, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. SpecTec Italy, who has also recently been awarded a prize for being the best organized company in the Province of La Spezia, will host the first students as of February 2009.
