Strategic Marine’s Singapore branch is meeting a steady demand for its 40-m crewboat. With a beam of 7.5 m and a molded depth of 3.23 m, the aluminum vessels have a 2.3-m operating draft. Three heavy duty rated Cummins engines provide propulsion power – two KTA38 M3 wing engines each delivering 1350 at 1950 rpm and one KTA50 M2 center engine delivering 1800 hp at 1900 rpm. This combination gives the vessels a total of 4,500 hp that drive the boats at up to 28 knots with a 25-knot cruising speed. Gears are Twin Disc 6690sc and 6848sc.
Capacities include 25,000 liters of water, 60,000 liters of fuel and up to 80 passengers. Accommodations are provided for ten crew and the vessels have a 90 square meter open deck capable of carrying two tons per square meter.
Typically the vessels have been fitted with two Cummins 6BT 5.9-powered 80 kW generators and a Cummins 4BT powered diesel over hydraulic 100 hp bow thruster.
There are currently five of the 40-m vessels on order or under construction with six already in service. Strategic’s hull number 152, which will be the seventh 40-m boat completed, will deliver from the yard at the end of August 2007. This vessel and three more are for Borcos Shipping of Malaysia. Hull number 149 was delivered in December 2006 to Lewek Shipping of Singapore and is currently working in East Malaysia.
Strategic Marine’s Singaporean, Australian and Vietnam yards are also busy with orders for fifty 10-m, forty 12-m, fifty 16-m, four 18-m and four 20-m patrol boats for an African nation. In 2006 they delivered three 31-m crew boats to Qatar as well.
