June 13, 2001

Canal Boats Inc. has received a contract to build eight Hybrid Electric ferries for Broward Country, Fla., Mass Transit Division. The ferries, funded by a Federal Ferry Boat Discretionary Fund Grand, will be delivered over the next six months and be placed in service by Water Taxi, Inc., as part of a unique and innovative intermodal mass transit project with Broward County Mass Transit Division called BUZ FERRY. The hybrid electric boats were designed by Canal Boats, and the 42-ft. vessels are designed to have very low wake, and operate in a quiet, efficient and environmentally friendly manner.
The orderbook for U.S. dredgers is about $3B, and according to DCA CEO Bill Doyle, the incoming political administration could help this niche maritime sector continue its bull run.
