The containership, MV APL Emerald, which ran aground last week south of the Horsburgh Lighthouse, in the eastern approaches of the Singapore Straits, was refloated today. A clean-up operation for the oil spill from the grounding of the ship was completed before the refloat. Last Thursday, the 40,077-ton vessel spilled about 150 ton of oil.
Six anti-pollution craft were on site to clean up the oil spill. As a precautionary measure, oil booms were laid around the vessel. Another eight craft will be deployed by the vessel's local agent to assist in the clean up.
All port operations were able to function normally. Vessel traffic within the Singapore waters and the Singapore Strait remain unaffected.
