The Shipping Company Reederei Hamburger Lloyd GmbH & CO KG was founded in 2007 by experienced Merchants and Ship Owners from Hamburg. Today, its head office is still situated in the heart of this North German seaport.

Reederei Hamburger Lloyd (RHL) has specialized in the container shipping sector and cooperates closely with the shipping activities of Hansa Hamburg Shipping International GmbH & Co. KG, to whom they are linked through their shareholder structure. Hamburger Lloyd can accompany a ship from its planning stage to its financing, its building and its operation, right up to its possible sale.

Hamburger Lloyd’s principal duties as a shipping company are managing, freighting and operating an ultra-modern fleet – management of the own fleet of state-of-the-art container vessels being the core business. However, the RHL team also provides a professional and comprehensive service for any third-party customers: Technical and Commercial Ship management; Chartering and Operational Management; Sale and Purchase; Crew Management; Newbuilding (Development and Contracting, Review of Specifications and Supervision) and Technical Consultancy Services (Projects, Surveys, Inspection Reports and Ship Evaluations).

Long-standing maritime experience and a strong connection to the shipping industry distinguish Reederei Hamburger Lloyd’s Management Team. Chartered Shipbrokers and graduated Bank Clerks, former Master Mariners and Marine Engineers –all feel a strong bond with shipping, with the sea. A close contact to the colleagues on board the vessels is important to all. Side by side with the rest of RHL’s team, they are the foundation of the company’s business activities today, and it is their work that makes it possible to carry out complex projects competently and comprehensively, with a motivated, forward-looking approach.

Reederei Hamburger Lloyd manages a fleet of top-modern container ships, all certified according to ISM (International Safety Management). The vessels operate worldwide, and exclusively for well-respected charterers. The vessels put into operation since the company’s foundation has so far all been built under the supervision of Germanischer Lloyd (GL).

In 2008, Hamburger Lloyd was the first tramp shipping company worldwide to commission four so-called “4.600 TEU wide-beam container ships” from the Chinese Shanghai Shipyard and Jiangnan Shipyard. The first two newbuildings, RHL Conscientia and RHL Concordia, were put into service in 2012 as state-of-the-art container vessels. The two other units, RHL Constantiaand RHL Calliditas, were handed over in 2013.
