On Thursday, May 2, 2013, Reederei Hamburger Lloyd took command of the third of four 4,600 TEU Containership Newbuildings (hull No. H1025A) from CSSC Shanghai, Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. Another vessel of the same type (No. H1026A) is expected to follow in August this year. In the course of the festive naming ceremony, the vessel was named RHL Constantia by Ms. Christine Wegner, lawyer and partner in the shipping law firm Cyrus Makowski.

The container vessel, RHL Constantia, will enter a time charter for account of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd., Tokyo, on May 15, 2013 and will trade between the Far East and the U.S. West Coast under the command of Captain JurijSavliukevic.

M/V RHL Constantia is the Hamburg-based shipping company’s 15th vessel. The freshly named ship is 259.80m long, 37.3m wide and carries 57,000 tons at a design draught of 12.5m. She can take 4,620 TEU of cargo, of which 1,856 TEU in the holds and 2,764 on deck, up to seven tiers high. Her homogenous loading capacity amounts to 3,620 TEU à 14 tons. Altogether, there are 600 reefer sockets available on deck, and a 36,240 kW MAN Main Engine, type 8K80ME, allows the GL-classified newbuilding a cruising speed of 23.3 knots.

The Shipping Company Reederei Hamburger Lloyd GmbH & CO KG was founded in 2007 by experienced Merchants and Ship Owners from Hamburg. Today, its head office is still situated in the heart of this North German seaport.

Reederei Hamburger Lloyd (RHL) has specialized in the container shipping sector and cooperates closely with the shipping activities of Hansa Hamburg Shipping International GmbH & Co. KG, to whom they are linked through their shareholder structure. Hamburger Lloydcan accompany a ship from its planning stage to its financing, its building and its operation, right up to its possible sale.

Hamburger Lloyd’s principal duties as a shipping company are managing, freighting and operating an ultra-modern fleet – management of the own fleet of state-of-the-art container vessels being the core business. However, the RHL team also provides a professional and comprehensive service for any third-party customers: technical and commercial ship management; chartering and operational management; sale and purchase; crew management; newbuilding (development and contracting, review of specifications and supervision) and technical consultancy services (projects, surveys, inspection reports and ship evaluations)

The fleet managed by Reederei Hamburger Lloyd consists of 14 top-modern container ships, all certified according to International Safety Management (ISM). All vessels operate worldwide, exclusively for well-respected charterers. The vessels put into operation since the company’s foundation have so far all been built under the supervision of Germanischer Lloyd (GL).

In the year 2008, Hamburger Lloyd was the first tramp shipping company worldwide to commission four so-called “4.600 TEU wide-beam container ships” from the Chinese Shanghai Shipyard and Jiangnan Shipyard. The first two newbuildings, RHL Conscientia (CCNI Aysen) and RHL Concordia (CCNI Andes) were put into service in 2012 as state-of-the-art container vessels. In 2013, two sister vessels are to follow, so that the RHL fleet will then comprise of 16 units.
