Port of LA August Container Volumes Top 700,000 TEU's

The Port of Los Angeles has released its August 2013 cargo volumes. August overall volumes totaled 709,675 Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) containers, the second consecutive month volumes exceeded 700,000 TEUs. Compared to August 2012, volumes inched up less than 1 percent.

Imports edged downward by 1.41 percent, from 360,762 TEUs in August 2012 to 355,682 TEUs this August. Exports decreased  3.84 percent, from 164,819 TEUs in August  2012 to 158,484 TEUs in August 2013.

Combined, total loaded imports and exports for August decreased 2.17 percent, from 525,581 TEUs last August to 514,167 TEUs in August 2013. Factoring in empties, which increased 7.96 percent year over year, overall August 2013 volumes (709,675 TEUs) increased .4 percent compared to August  2012 (706,669 TEUs).
