China Shipyard Repairs Panama Canal Damaged Container Ship

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 20, 2012

German-owned 998-ft container ship 'Ilse Wulff' repaired in CIC Changxing Shipyard after touching bottom in the Panama Canal earlier in the year.

Owners of the Ilse Wulff decided to combine the repair of bottom plating and a deformed propellor blade by bringing forward the vessel's first special classification survey.

Ilse Wulff was put in to the CIC Jiuhuashan floating dock for the bottom plate and propeller blade inspections and the project work scope was confirmed by the owner’s superintendent, the class surveyor and the shipyard staff after careful inspection.

Work to clean and repaint the ship's hull coating was also put in hand.

The shipyard says that the owner was satisfied with the quality of the repairs and would look forward to further cooperation with them in the near future.
