Qatar Hikes Container Storage & Clearance Charges

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

March 27, 2015

Changes to sea port charges have been implemented in Qatar, as per the decision of the country's Council of Ministers.

20' containers (clear in approx. 3–7 days, depending on weekend & availability of paperwork):

- Time starts from when container arrives in the port yard.

- First three days the port storage (including the day it arrived) will be free.

- Day 4, 5 & 6, port charges QAR 60 (US$ 16.50) per day.

- Daily charge of QAR 120 (US$ 33) from 7th day onwards.

40' containers (clear in approx. 3–7 days, depending on weekend & availability of paperwork)

- As above, but from 4th day, prices are double.

- Day 4, 5 & 6, port charges QAR 120 (US$ 33.00) per day.

- Daily charge of QAR 240 (US$ 66) from 7th day onwards.

LCL Shipments/Groupage (clear in approx. 9–14 days, depending on availability of required paperwork)

Container consolidator will charge each individual consignment a pro-rated fee equal to the amount of cubic meters divided by the total amount of cubic meters in the container. As clearing an LCL shipment is a longer process than a sole container, the indicative minimum fee is approximately QAR 450 per cubic metre (US$ 100 per cubic metre) on top of the normal LCL charges of US$ 85-120 per cubic metre.

Changes have also been made to port fees across the board related to - among others - storage/demurrage of general goods, yard storage, warehousing, and automobiles.
