E-Commerce Missteps Analyzed At Joint Bunker Conference

What happens when a bunker deal set up over the Internet goes wrong? One hasn't yet, but if bunkering in cyberspace mirrors bunkering in the real world, it is only a matter of time before one does. The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) and Oxford-based marine, energy and commodity credit information provider Infospectrum will be presenting and discussing each step of an e-commerce deal that has come off the rails at a joint bunker conference to be held in Athens, Greece, from 5-8 June 2001. "The conference, which will incorporate IBIA's 2001 members' meeting, will be held at the Astir Palace Resort at Vougliameni. This is the first marine fuels conference and exhibition to be held in Greece and it will offer a generous and balanced program of top-level debate and social functions. We are keen that the conference is lively and addresses issues in a novel way. The e-commerce session is a clear example of this. We will have leading insurers and lawyers commenting on this important issue," says IBIA chairman Ivar Tønnesen. In addition to e-commerce issues and an overview of the Greek market, the conference will cover the new "BIMCO Standard Bunker Contract" marine fuel supply contract, pricing mechanisms, the quality of future fuel, dispute resolution, sampling, and a light-hearted look at bunkering in 2020. IBIA will also be hosting its successful one-day Basic Bunkering Course. The social program will include a yacht regatta and an informal gala dinner. "We are expecting over 350 delegates and some 20 exhibitors to attend the event. IBIA members and early bird registrations will receive a reduction of $155 if the completed registration form is received before the 23 February 2001 (register online at www.greece2001.net). We have also negotiated an excellent rate on the hotel accommodation and organized several events to offer the perfect networking opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere," says Mike Dandridge, Infospectrum's head of sales.
