Condition-based Monitoring for MOL’s New Tanker

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has introduced ClassNK Consulting Service’s condition-based monitoring (CBM) system ClassNK CMAXS e-GICSX on the M/V Taranaki Sun, marking the system’s first commercial application.

The ClassNK CMAXS e-GICSX CBM system first collects large amounts of voyage data, including weather and sea conditions and machinery data collected from multiple sensors installed on electronically controlled main diesel engine. Then, using a sophisticated algorithm, it analyzes correlations between the data to detect engine abnormalities and provide troubleshooting based on these abnormality detection results.

MOL selected ClassNK CMAXS e-GICSX for the 50,000 dwt tanker in order to reduce maintenance costs through the early detection of abnormalities and determine optimum timing of parts replacement.

Through the provision of ClassNK CMAXS e-GICSX, ClassNK Consulting Service continues to reduce the total lifecycle cost of vessels and improve the reliability of main engines.
