The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) issued the report of its investigation into the grounding of the passenger ferry Dieppe in the approach to Newhaven on December 5, 2005. The grounding occurred three months after the issuance of the MAIB report on a similar grounding of a sister vessel in the same port. The grounding occurred on an uncharted shoal in an area of known silting. The master had not been made aware of the new under keel clearance requirements. The ship’s echo sounder had not been turned on. The port had not implemented the recommendations of the prior investigation.
