Torben G. Jensen, Chairman & CEO of The Clipper Group, has been named this week as the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Commodore for the year 2006. Jensen follows a succession of maritime industry leaders as Commodore. The Award will be presented to Mr. Jensen on March 22.
The Award is given each year to a person in the international maritime industry who has contributed to the growth and development of the industry.
Jensen who is currently the Chairman & CEO of The Clipper Group has had a distinguished career in the maritime industry, with over 45 years experience.
Jensen started his career in shipping in 1959 as a trainee in his native country of Denmark. In 1972 he and an ex-colleague set-up Armada Shipping Aps., Denmark. Armada was the management company whereas Clipper was their trading arm. In 1991 the two partners amicably agreed to split up their activities and Mr. Jensen kept the name of Clipper .
The Clipper Group is an international shipping consortium comprised of ship owning, time charter operation, commercial and technical ship management, trading, agency, stevedoring and investment companies. The first Clipper Company was incorporated in 1972. The Group has grown continuously and presently includes over 300 separate companies conducting business worldwide.
C. Sean Day will present the 2006 Commodore Award to Mr. Jensen at the March 22 Dinner at the Westin Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut.
