Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), of Miramar, Fla., has signed a cooperative agreement with Xantic. Under the agreement, financial terms of which were not disclosed, Xantic will market and distribute MTN’s VSAT services to the global maritime markets. It will also provide teleport services to MTN at Burum (Netherlands) to add to MTN's existing teleport infrastructure and to add C- and Ku-Band services in the North Sea, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean regions. “This agreement offers MTN the ability to expand our global product and services using Xantic’s excellent facilities at Burum while expanding our sales and distribution capabilities through Xantic’s network of 35 offices worldwide,” said Bradford Briggs, Senior Vice President of MTN. MTN and Xantic already have a strong working relationship, working together to provide customized solutions to the maritime industry. Now the strength of these two companies combined will bring the best of satellite technology to their customers. By this cooperative agreement, Xantic will also be able to offer a wide range of value-added services over VSAT such as Internet cafés, payphones, newspaper services and hot spot (“WiFi”) wireless Internet access. “The addition of maritime VSAT services extends our portfolio, enabling us to cover our customers’ needs in the broadest sense,” said Ronald Spithout, CEO of Xantic. “This agreement with MTN again confirms our strategy to build partnerships in order to strengthen our position in the market.”
