Hansa Hamburg’s MS Reinbek Christened

A new 1,600 TEU containership built for Hamburg-based issuing house Hansa Hamburg Shipping was christened the MS Reinbek at a special ceremony at the Port of Hamburg's Überseebrücke terminal. MS Reinbek is the second newbuilding in a series of four identical feeder ships built at the Meyer Werft shipbuilding company's Papenburg shipyard for Hansa Hamburg Shipping. Its christening comes six weeks after the christening of the first vessel in the series, the MS Eilbek.

The latter has already successfully completed its second return voyage to Montreal via Antwerp and Liverpool for international shipping company CP Ships. The MS Reinbek has also been chartered to CP Ships and will likewise operate on its Northern Europe-Canada service.

"CP ships has a first-rate reputation on the international market. This completely vindicates our philosophy of providing the market with the right ships at the right time," commented Harald Block, founder and co-director of Hansa Hamburg Shipping. His investment-fund issuing house arranged financing for the vessel by setting up a public shipping investment fund. MS Reinbek is a high-speed vessel, which has been built to the highest commercial ice-class specification and offers flexible cargo handling facilities. This combination of features makes it the exception among feeder vessels of this size class. The ship's technical management is in the hands of the Hamburg-based Wappen Reederei shipping company.

Designed for promising new markets and named in continuation of a century-old tradition, the is an elegant pairing of future-savvy high technology and shipping history. The Hamburg-based shipping company Knöhr & Burchardt Nfl., which has been contracted for the feeder's commercial management, has named its entire fleet after Hamburg river and place names ending in "-bek".
