Inland Tank Barges: Certificates of Inspection

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

March 10, 2004

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Notice stating that it conducted a pilot program to test administrative changes to the inland tank barge certificate of inspection (COI) relating to cargo information. During the period of the study, the Coast Guard replaced the Marine Safety Information System (MSIS) with the Marine Information for Safety and Law Enforcement (MISLE) information system. The MISLE system rendered unnecessary contemplated regulatory changes to the COI. Additional information concerning tank vessel cargo information may be found at T2: Tank Vessel Cargo and Vapor Control Authority under MISLE. As explained there, cargo information was moved from the COI to a Cargo Authority Attachment. 69 Fed. Reg. 11449 (March 10, 2004). (HK Law)
